Free SBT® Class
How do we reclaim fullness in constrained conditions? How do we move through internal and external pressure without hardening, collapsing, or disappearing?
This 90-minute Spiral Body Techniques® class is rooted in spirals, undulation, curve, falling, floorwork, and the profound capacity and intelligence of the ball-and-socket joints. We will move away from habitual gripping — especially in the abdominals, hips, pelvis, shoulders, and spine — and toward a fuller, more fluid, more trustworthy body, respecting limitations and preferences always.
SBT often begins quietly: on the floor, in privacy, in small spaces, with attention to what the body is already doing. From there, we build and increase flow and momentum. We follow spirals and figure-8s. We explore how movement can travel through the body instead of being forced onto it. We let the pelvis unhook from rigid comportment. We let the spine become more available. We practice moving with varying degrees of tone and gravitational pressure without gripping or turning ourselves into armor.
This class is open to intermediate and experienced dancers, dancers returning after time away, dancers recovering from injury, movers who want to become more comfortable on the floor, and anyone wanting to dance more fully, safely, and with less fear of doing it “wrong.”
SBT is especially useful for:
spatial awareness
trusting yourself without a mirror
trusting your body
floorwork confidence
moving with greater fullness, clarity, and ease
retaining material through guided repetition
What to expect:
We will begin on the floor with guided explorations of fundamental SBT concepts, taking time for repetition, momentum, and clarity to build. We will gradually work toward standing and larger movement, all within the space you have available.
The class will end by weaving the exercises and discoveries together into a longer phrase: a chance to hold SBT principles while moving at your own pace, with your own body, inside the actual space you have.
